Where the 8th Pay Commission stands (November 2026)
- The 8th CPC was constituted on 3 November 2025 and has about 18 months to submit its report — around mid-2027.
- It is still consulting unions and departments. No fitment factor, pay matrix or implementation date has been announced.
- By convention, pay commissions take effect from 1 January every ten years (the 7th CPC from 1 January 2016), so many employees expect 1 January 2026 with arrears. This has not been confirmed.
Any website quoting an "official" 8th CPC salary is guessing. This calculator makes the assumptions visible so you can test them.
How the calculation works
New basic pay = current basic pay × fitment factor (rounded to ₹100)
When a new pay commission starts, the dearness allowance accumulated so far is merged into basic pay and reset to zero. That is the key to understanding the real increase:
- Today, with DA at 63%, your basic + DA is 1.63 × basic.
- So a fitment factor of 1.63 would only keep your basic + DA unchanged. The real raise is the part of the fitment factor above 1.63.
HRA also matters: it is currently 30% / 20% / 10% of basic (X / Y / Z cities) because DA crossed 50%. At the start of the 7th CPC it was 24% / 16% / 8%, and the calculator assumes the same reset.
Scenarios for common basic pays (X-class city)
| Fitment factor | ₹18,000 basic → | ₹35,400 basic → | ₹56,100 basic → |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.83 | ₹32,900 | ₹64,800 | ₹1,02,700 |
| 1.92 | ₹34,600 | ₹68,000 | ₹1,07,700 |
| 2.00 | ₹36,000 | ₹70,800 | ₹1,12,200 |
| 2.28 | ₹41,000 | ₹80,700 | ₹1,27,900 |
| 2.57 | ₹46,300 | ₹91,000 | ₹1,44,200 |
| 2.86 | ₹51,500 | ₹1,01,200 | ₹1,60,400 |
For ₹18,000 basic in an X-class city, basic + DA + HRA today is ₹34,740. At a fitment factor of 2.0, the new basic + HRA would be about ₹44,640 — roughly ₹9,900 more a month.
Fitment factors in past pay commissions
| Commission | Fitment factor | Minimum basic pay |
|---|---|---|
| 6th CPC (2006) | 1.86 | ₹7,000 |
| 7th CPC (2016) | 2.57 | ₹18,000 |
| 8th CPC | Not announced | — |
Employee unions have asked for much higher factors (around 3.8 or more); independent estimates commonly range from about 1.8 to 2.6. Use the slider to test the range.
What the calculator leaves out
Transport allowance, special allowances, NPS/UPS contributions and income tax are not included. Pensioners can use the same idea: basic pension × fitment factor, with DR reset to zero. For today's DA arrears, use the DA calculator.
